Lenders Made Homeownership a Reality for Thousands Through VHDA Loans

July 16, 2004 -- Southern Trust Mortgage recently received a 2003 Top 10 Lender Award from the Virginia Housing Development Authority during an awards luncheon recently held at the Capital Club in Richmond. The Top 10 lenders were recognized for originating the most VHDA loans last year and playing an important role in supporting VHDA’s mission of providing safe, affordable homes for Virginians.

The Top 10 lenders also were recognized in full-page newspaper ads that ran in June editions of the Richmond Times-Dispatch and Norfolk Virginian-Pilot real estate sections. Each organization received a framed copy of the ad with the headline: “First-time homebuyers: meet your home-run hitters.”

“Last year, these lending partners helped more than 2,500 Virginia families obtain a home with VHDA loans,” said VHDA Executive Director Susan Dewey. “In many cases, their loan officers went the ‘extra mile,’ working with first-time homebuyers to help them realize the American dream.”

Whether someone is a first-time homebuyer, needs help with closing costs or has past credit issues, VHDA offers a variety of flexible, low interest loan products to fit the need. With the assistance of the Top 10 lenders, Virginia reached a record 75 percent level of homeownership in 2003.
